Mira Mikati x Darcel

Kicking off a string of now-trademark art world collaborations, Mira Mikati’s AW15 partnership with New-York-based Darcel Disappoints (né Craig Redman) formalised her ability to merge the worlds of childlike whimsicality with cutting-edge artistry and tailored-to-a-T fashion.

“His illustrations are based on daily misadventures in New York,” says Mikati. “So there are elements of street art as well as comic book motifs in the clothes. The idea was to design fall with the playful energy of spring.”

A covey of now-signature embellished bombers was instantly seen draped over the shoulders of those in the know at Paris Fashion Week, the playfully ennui monocles smirking from the conversely tailored, tomboyish silhouettes.

The industry-lauded illustrator and his charmingly cheeky, egg-shaped caricatures (alongside the complimentary fall collection) helped solidify the eponymous brand’s playfully feminine sartorial niche as it rose in the ranks of contemporary street-chic names.
